Lemonade stands – a great activity for kids that they are excited about!

Lemonade stands help to teach kids the importance of hard work and reward, strengthens their communication skills, and keeps them busy for an afternoon.

Something new to try:

Get some fruit puree (or better yet, make some fresh yourself!) to add to your lemonade.

Just fill up the bottom 1/4 of your cup with the fruit puree and top with lemonade. It’s easy and adds something special to your kids’ lemonade stand! If this may be one-too-many steps for your child, simply add the fruit puree to the cups (preferably plastic as paper ones may get soggy) and set in ice, keeping the cup upright. The cups will be easy to grab and fill accordingly.

Treasure hunts – a new adventure at your own house!

Treasure hunts are a fun and organized activity that can be done with a group, inside or outside.

I found that leaving clues helps the kids keep interest and stay organized. After they find one clue, they move on to the next, and the last clue leads them to the treasure map. Once they find the map, they will know the location of the “treasure.”

Something new to try:

The treasure is water balloons and quickly leads them to their next outdoor activity. Divide the balloons up, pick your “home base,” and go!

Painting the dog house – help make something special for your furry friend!

Painting can get messy, so why not paint while you soak up some sun? One of my favorite activities I did as a kid was painting my dog’s house. Buddy was such a good dog I wanted to make his dog house extra special. So, when it started looking a bit faded, I got to pick out some paint and give the dog house a fresh coat. I even painted his name above the door. This is a fantastic activity to get the creative juices flowing and is appropriate for a group (probably 4 or less – one side of the dog house for each child) or an individual child.

Something a little less permanent to try:

Use chalk instead of paint. It’s temporary but still makes for a great activity and “gift” for your dog!
