Booking Your Holiday Travel Family Style

Posted by on Nov 24, 2013 in Travel | Comments Off on Booking Your Holiday Travel Family Style

The winter holidays can be the most wonderful times of the year. But family travel during the holidays has the potential to be a nightmare. From Thanksgiving to New Years has been deemed as the busiest travel time of the year–regardless of whether you’re going by boat, plane, or car. Traveling solo can be stressful and expensive as it is, but then add in the dynamic of the whole family, and it takes holiday stress to a whole different level. To ease some of the stress, Baby’s Own Room wants to share some tips on booking your holiday, family style.

Booking Holiday Travel Family Style - By planning ahead and booking smart, there's no doubt that booking your family's holiday vacation will not only be a smooth process, but also help to create great holiday memories that will last a lifetime. #traveltips

The most important thing you can do is plan early before booking. Planning early will ensure that any kinks or confusions are sorted out well before your departure. Will you be traveling with babies and or young children? Pets? Are you going to be flying or driving? And how long will you and the family be away from home? These will be questions that you and the family will need to answer in plenty of time before you start packing.

With planning in mind, regardless of what method of travel you use, plan on what items you’re going to keep with you. For babies, this means diapers, formula, pacifiers, and small soft toys. For kids, this means things that will entertain them for long travel hours such as their favorite books, DVDs, coloring books, and music.

Now that you’re prepped and ready to get your family travel booked, here are some things to consider.

➜ If you’re going to fly, keep in mind of the busiest travel days of the year. Not only are these days more expensive, but the airport will be packed with people–all with the goal of spending the holidays with loved ones. These days usually fall in the Wednesday before and the Sunday after Thanksgiving, and the period surrounding Christmas and New Year’s Day celebrations.

Bonus Travel Booking Tip: With Christmas on a Wednesday this year, you can get great deals booking your plane tickets the week before Christmas and leaving after the 26th.

➜ Keep an eye out for family packages and travel deals on the numerous travel websites where you can save money when you book your plane, hotel, and rental car together. If you travel often, look into using your loyalty or rewards points to book your tickets.

➜ By planning ahead and booking smart, there is no doubt that booking your family’s holiday vacation will not only be a smooth process, but also certain to create great holiday memories that will last a lifetime.

Will your family be vacationing over the winter holiday’s this year? Have any tips for stress-free travel? We’d love to hear from you. Safe travels and Happy Holidays! Love, Your friends at Baby’s Own Room

Health and Wellness Benefits of Dancing During Pregnancy

Posted by on Nov 18, 2013 in Fit Pregnancy | 2 comments

No matter what your current dance expertise is, you can get some health and wellness benefits from hitting classes while your little one starts to grow inside you. Just Dance!

Most doctors agree that exercise is important during pregnancy. The more active you can remain while pregnant, the fewer complications that you will have during and after your pregnancy. This week, Baby’s Own Room is sharing some of the many health and wellness benefits of dancing during pregnancy. For most of us, weight loss can be a concern that is high on the list. By incorporating dance in your routine, you will have less weight to lose after the baby comes, and your overall sense of wellness will be much higher. Let’s look at some other benefits, for the well-being of both mom-to-be and baby.

  • Taking a dance class is likely to help you stay fit and have some fun while you’re waiting for your little one to arrive.
  • If you have been dancing for exercise before your pregnancy, some experts believe that you can keep up the same level throughout your first trimester without running any risks. This is true for leaping, jumping and hopping.
  • The impact that comes from movements like tap dancing is something to avoid.
  • One reason why dance is so helpful for fitness during pregnancy is that it comes from the very center of your body. As a result, it boosts your balance, proper body alignment and overall muscle tone.
  • The more balance you develop, the more your body will begin to change. This is important because locating your body’s center becomes even tougher when your baby is growing inside you.

So why not turn up the music and get dancing! Best of all, make sure to have some fun. While we are not experts at Baby’s Own Room, here are a few more tips and some information that we’ve learned along the way. It’s important to remember that as your body grows with the pregnancy, finding proper body alignment becomes even more of a problem. When you hit your second and third trimesters, your lower back may sway outward with your stomach, making an arch through your lumbar region to balance the baby’s weight. This alters your center of gravity and changes your body’s balance and alignment. By tucking your bottom in, holding your rib cage inward, and holding things in place with your abs, you can maintain balance while dancing. If you have movements with which you feel confident, stick with them as long as you can, particularly if dance has been a hobby of yours.

Quick Tip! Getting the OK. Always make sure to check with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise program during your pregnancy. This also goes for the 6 weeks after giving birth. 🙂

No matter what your current dance expertise is, you can get some health and wellness benefits from hitting classes while your little one starts to grow inside you. Try some classes aimed at new mothers to help you find your inner balance. We blog about fit pregnancy and invite you to join us. Happy Blogging and happy baby!

Baby’s First Christmas – How to Make Wonderful Holiday Memories

Posted by on Nov 15, 2013 in Holidays | 2 comments

The first year with a new baby is an exciting time of celebrating firsts. Here are some tips for a memorable and stress free holiday season.

The first year with a new baby is an exciting time of celebrating many “firsts.” As the holidays are fast approaching, making the most of your baby’s first holiday season will undoubtedly make wonderful memories full of smiles and laughs. Baby’s Own Room  also wants to ensure that you survive the regular holiday stress and adjust to the change of a new addition in the family very smoothly.

The most important thing to keep in mind is that your baby has most likely adjusted to a regular schedule. Or, if your baby is a newborn, your family may be in the process of implementing a schedule. But–when the holidays approach, schedules tend to become hectic. Think of it this way; between the shopping, the gifts, and cooking holiday meals, it is stressful enough even for the grownups. And for a tiny new addition, this can be confusing and equally stressful.

The best thing to do for your baby’s first holiday season is to slow down and enjoy those special moments. Here are some of our best tips for a memorable and stress free, okay maybe we should say ‘less stressful’ holiday season.

  • Avoid the large holiday parties, even though it is tempting to show off your baby to the masses. Being passed around and meeting so many new people at once can be a frightening experience for your little one.
  • Have a small gathering at your home with some food and drinks and take in the simplicity of the holiday season.
  • The same goes for gifts. While it may be tempting to shower your new baby with dozens of gifts, you don’t want to overwhelm them, so keep it to just a few presents.
  • If your friends and family shower them with presents, gradually introduce your baby to new gifts after the holiday season is over. By the way, this is a great remedy for boredom and cranky moments.

With the addition of your new little one, enjoy the adjustment and start creating new holiday traditions that can be enjoyed by the whole family. By making the celebration of the holiday season a smaller one, not only will your baby enjoy the holidays, but most importantly, you will be there to share in those special moments and create beautiful memories that will last a lifetime!

Is this a ‘Baby’s First Christmas’ year for you or someone in your circle of friends and family? If so, how are you planning to make adjustments? Are there new traditions that you plan on starting this year? We’d love to hear from you and it just may help one of our New Moms On The Block! Thanks for your comments.
