Travel & Kids: 5 Tips for Flying with your Baby

Posted by on Jun 24, 2013 in Travel | 4 comments

Baby's Own Room

The idea of getting on a plane with your baby can be intimidating (maybe even a little scary). After all, most parents have days where just getting out the door for a quick grocery store run is troublesome task with a baby. However, with a little extra careful planning and preparation, there is no reason why you cannot take your bundle of joy on a flight with you.

1. Do you need one seat or two?

Most flights do not require a parent to purchase an extra seat for their baby if they will be in their arms during the flight. However, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) highly recommends that it is a great deal safer for babies who weigh less than 40 pounds to be secured in their car seat during a plane ride.

2. Do not be afraid to ask for help.

The flight attendants are there to assist. You should always feel completely comfortable asking them for help when needed, especially if you’re traveling alone.

3. Do not worry about the people around you.

Naturally, you want to do what you can to comfort your child when they are crying. However, there are times where a baby is fussy and there really is nothing that you can do. Try not to worry about whether or not your child is disturbing the people around you. Chances are pretty good that a lot of them know exactly what it is you are going through.

4. Get a flight that works for your baby.

After a while, your baby should have a pretty set schedule. One of the best things you can do for yourself and your child is to schedule a flight when they are used to being asleep. This increases the chance that your baby is just going to sleep during the flight.

5. Give yourself plenty of time for surprises.

The general rule of thumb is that you need to arrive at an airport two hours early to make sure you can get through the security and get on your flight on time. However, you never know if your baby is going to throw up or need their diaper changed while you are rushing to your flight. Two hours may seem like a lot of time, but that is not always the case when you have a baby.

If you have a passion for travel, don’t stop moving. At Baby’s Own Room we are all about living active, exciting lives and if your passion happens to be travel, continue the journey. Baby’s don’t change lives but enrich them. See the world with your baby and once they are grown it will be fun to show him or her pictures of the places they’ve traveled to before they even knew how to talk.

Trend Lab Crib Bedding

Posted by on Jun 19, 2013 in Our Designers & Brands | Comments Off on Trend Lab Crib Bedding

Discount baby bedding is just one of many products that an individual can purchase from Trend Lab. Trend Lab is a private company that is licensed as a business owned by women. It was founded under the belief that parents want chic and trendy nursery decor that blend in well with the decor of the rest of their home. Trendy and chic products are what this company is all about.

The products that Trend Lab sells are broken down into a handful of categories including: babies, toddlers, gifts, home decorations, bags, and pets. The company even makes exclusive products and sells them to a single business. These are products that are never re-sold or promoted. They were made by Trend Lab, but they were sold to be exclusively used by the business that purchases them.

Crib bedding, toddler bedding, and nursery room accessories are some of the products this company sells that really speak to both new and experienced parents. After all, how would you feel if a guest visited your house and was able to go from room to room to see a matching decor? Most parents think that their child’s room is normally an exception to the decor throughout the rest of their house. However, this does not have to be the case, especially with Discount Baby Bedding.

Thanks to Trend Lab parents can create a fun and exciting bedroom for their child that also blends with the decor throughout the rest of their house as well. Naturally, your child’s wants and needs should always come first. You want to choose colors, furniture, and lightening fixtures that are going to appeal to the interests of your child. However, that does not mean that they cannot appeal to you as well. That is what Trend Lab is all about. It is a company that mixes the wants and needs of children into decor items that parents love as well. They offer a great line of the whimsical favorite’s childhood characters such as Dr. Seuss, Cat in the Hat and One Fish Two Fish.

New Moms: Should I be concerned with the number of people that are kissing and handling my baby?

Posted by on Jun 17, 2013 in New Mom on the Block | Comments Off on New Moms: Should I be concerned with the number of people that are kissing and handling my baby?

Baby's Own Room

When you become a mother for the first time, the number of things you are going to worry about can be pretty overwhelming. One of the number one things a new mother worries about is whether or not they should be concerned with the number of people kissing or handling their baby. They also wonder whether or not they should even allow a lot of people to handle and kiss on their baby.

The unfortunate truth is there really isn’t a lot of medical research or studies to back up whether or not babies who are handled and kissed a lot or babies who are not are healthier in the long run. The best thing that a new mother can do is to use common sense and make their own decision.

For example, if you do not want other people kissing your baby on their face, you just have to make that desire clear. You are their mother and it is your right. If you come into contact with someone you do not want to hold your child there is nothing wrong with telling them no. You are their mother. You are responsible for their health and their safety. In the long run, you are always going to know what is best for your child. You just have to listen to your heart and decide what you want to do.

There is nothing wrong with asking a person to wash and/or sanitize their hands before they handle your child. Furthermore, if you know someone who is sick or who has been recently it probably isn’t a good idea for them to be handling your child. You are your child’s voice, so you should never be afraid to speak up if you do not want someone holding or kissing your baby.

Baby’s Own Room suggests that as a new mom, trust your instincts and go with what feels right. Try not to get too wrapped up with the curious lookie-loos.  Try pretending that your new baby is the latest celebrity and enjoy the attention and spot light.
