Easter Fun: Babies & Toddlers

Posted by on Mar 29, 2013 in Holidays | Comments Off on Easter Fun: Babies & Toddlers

The unfortunate truth is that a lot of the more traditional Easter festivities are a little too advanced for babies and toddlers. After all, you wouldn’t want to give an infant some egg dye. Furthermore, a toddler and some egg dye is going to equal one ruined kitchen tablecloth and messy kitchen cleanup. However, there is nothing a parent wants more than for their child to experience their first Easter (and every Easter after that) to the fullest. It is not until around the age of two that it becomes easier for a parent to celebrate Easter traditions with their child.

Just because your child is too small for egg dye, it does not mean they cannot enjoy the pleasures of dying eggs. It can be aggravated and frustrating for children with small hands to try and dip the egg in various color dyes. Easy-to-hold markers and chubby crayons can work great in this scenario. It gives your toddler freer to decorate the hardboiled egg however they want. It may be a good idea to hold the egg for your child to make the task a little easier.

Something that might be a little more fun for your child than decorating the eggs with marker and crayons is finger painting the eggs. Every child enjoys playing with finger paint and there is nothing more exciting decorating an egg with finger paint. It is suggested that you predye the eggs to add some extra color because washable finger paint does not always create eggs that are as colorful as the child wants.

Spending a holiday with your baby or toddler is supposed to be a memorable time for both you and your child. This is why it is also a good idea to pop into an Easter event featuring an Easter bunny. There is nothing more memorable than being able to get a picture of your child taken with the Easter bunny. If you have a child who is afraid of the Easter bunny (because some children are afraid of things dressed up as mascots), you can try holding your child and standing next to the Easter bunny to get a picture.  From all of us at Baby’s Own Room, Happy Easter!

Nursery Decor: Crib Mobiles Stimulate Your Baby’s Senses

Posted by on Mar 27, 2013 in Kids Room Decor, Nursery | Comments Off on Nursery Decor: Crib Mobiles Stimulate Your Baby’s Senses

When you are looking to add some style and stimulation to your child’s nursery decor, crib mobiles are a great place to start. One of the biggest things you have to worry about and deal with when you have a newborn is keeping them entertained. The unfortunate truth is that newborns are not able to do a lot until they start learning how to move and grab things. It can end up being a few months before your child is able to hold onto and play with toys on their own.

Everyone knows that you cannot just leave a toy or a pillow in the bed to entertain your newborn. While this may give them something to look at for a while, it is not very safe for them. When it comes to up-keeping the safety of your child’s nursery decor, crib mobiles are the best choice you can make.

Crib mobiles are completely safe for your child. Furthermore, they keep them entertained as they give them something to look at. Most mobiles also plays music which gives them something soothing to listen to as well. Playing a Crib Mobile when your child is going to bed or getting ready to take a nap is extremely helpful in getting them to go to bed as well as creating healthy sleep habits.  Here are some great crib mobiles that coordinate perfectly with our Baby Bedding Collections.

Hooty Turquoise & Lime Green Owl musical mobile that plays Brahms’ Lullaby softy and is designed by Sweet Jojo Designs.  Four friendly colorful owls dance beneath a canopy of teal and lime, each with their own personality keeping your sweet new baby laughing and smiling.

Underneath a quilted canopy of cream with a ruffle strip are five polka dot baby elephants ready to talk your one to sleep with the every popular Brahms’ Lullaby.  This crib mobile coordinates perfectly with the entire Elephant Brigade Baby Bedding Collections.

Dr. Seuss Cat in The Hat musical mobile by Trend Lab. Looking for something a bit little more whimsical?  The canopy features a scatter print of the classic book’s in barn red and black with accents of blue, orange, green and yellow on a white background and framed by red star embossed velour. Four stuffed silly cats that whirl around slowly to Brahms’ Lullaby.

It is highly suggested that you avoid making the environment your child sleeps in completely silent. If your child gets used to sleeping where there is no noise at all, every little noise is going to wake them up. While this may not be a problem at your house, if someone else watches your child or your child takes a nap while in public or visiting someone – this could turn into a problem and quickly.  Life is going to change when you have a new baby to take care of but remember that they are a product of their environment.  Get your baby on a schedule and expose them to lots of different environments and you’ll have a baby that can easily go anywhere, anytime.

What most parents do not take the time to think about is the fact that your newborn baby actually has to learn how to sleep along with everything else that comes naturally to you. A newborn baby does not always know to turn their head if their face gets buried in a pillow. Nor does a newborn baby know how to roll over if they get stuck in their covers either. This is why there are tons of safety procedures and precautions that need to be taken when you are dressing your newborns bed. There is nothing wrong with wanting stylish Affordable Designer Crib Bedding, but it is important to make sure it meets of all of the safety precautions you need to take for your baby.

For example, while baby bumpers are cute. But some feel they no place in the bed of a newborn. There is a concern that if your child’s face were to get stuck in the bumper, there is no way for them to get their face out until they are a bit older. When you are at the hospital, your doctors and nurses are going to highly recommend that you remove baby bumpers from the crib you have made up at home or don’t use them at all. You should also never have any pillows, stuffed animals, or toys in the crib with your child. As cute as they may be, they are not safe for a newborn. As a new parent it is more important for your baby’s crib to be safe than for it to be cute.  So when putting your nursery together your best defense is to educate yourself and use your best judgement.
